Reading Comprehension

In order to maximize classroom learning time, we are asking that students only come in and out of the classroom to get materials three times a day.  They may first grab all of their things when they arrive in the morning for periods 1, 2, 3, 4, and snack.  Before lunch, they may come drop their stuff for their next class, because at that point, they need everything for the rest of that day’s classes.  At the end of the day, the students may come for a final time to

SS 5:

  • We finished our notes packets and studied for the test.
  • The test has been moved to Tuesday, September 27, so be sure to study!

ELA 7-8

  • QW – I’m really stressing procedures in this class.  Not a single minute of class should be wasted if the students can follow the procedures that we discussed.  The Quick Write is one of those procedures.  Getting into the habit of writing is a practice that is necessary to form life-long learners.  Things like raising one’s hand, not speaking out of turn, and sharpening pencils are also being discussed.
  • We talked about the reading process and discussed the SCRIP method of reading.
  • We read a short story from the text book and got practice using each step of SCRIP.
  • Homework: Homework Practice 1, scramble ELA

ELA 5-6:

  • QW
  • We discussed the makeup of a paragraph – topic sentence, concluding sentence, details, examples/explanations, etc.
  • We color coded the different parts of a paragraph and labeled them so that we may practice them tomorrow.
  • Homework: Homework Practice 1, scramble ELA

SS 7-8

  • We finished our notes on Chapter 16 section 3.
  • We are going to begin DBQs (Document Based Questions) next class!
